Zoey Knows Shit About Shit

Zoey: Yo, Zube Boy! Check it out. I think that shit needs to be a little more to the left.

Zube Boy: Okay, Zo, could you just shut up, 'cause you're kind of bugging me out. You're a fucking cat. Go lick your ass or catch a mouse or some shit like that.

Zoey: Pffbt. Humans. Cocky sons of bitches...That's the last time I try to help out around the house.

Zube Boy let me paint a room ORANGE and I'm pretty fucking excited about that. However, it is, shall we say, BRIGHT FUCKING ORANGE. Now, I fancy myself a decorator, but I'd like some input. To give you a bit of reference, this room is going to be our study. I'm wondering what accent colors I could use to tone the brightness down a bit.

Here's what I'm thinking. Light blue. Kind of a Santa Fe look. Maybe I'll throw in a little brown, too, but I'm not sure. The furniture is going to be knotty pine. Any suggestions? I asked Zoey, but she's a bit miffed at Zube Boy, so she's ignoring all bipedals for the moment. I'm not too concerned about it, as I'm sure she'll get hungry sooner or later. The cats never cut off all ties with me for very long.

I'd go to Lowe's or Home Depot and use their little computer things. You can see how the colors would look before you commit. But then again...it is just paint.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the orange though!

Like you said, brown would be nice. Light and dark browns. Paired with off-white.

Just a thought. :)

Oooo, I think Teal would look great! I love southwest colors, we did our bedroom in that, then Gomer wanted something more "Cabin", so now we have freakin' bears and moose in our bedroom.....

I think some violet and neon green stripes would be nice. Please post photos if you take advantage of my decorating genius...

Hmmm... blues are nice with oranges. I've also seen burgandy or reds with orange which looks nice too... kind of has that autumn effect. Chocolate brown with the burgandy or red tones would look nice. Seems like light blue would brighten it up... do you want to go warm and cozy or that contemporary, bright look? You could go to www.hgtv.com too and get inspiration there as well. That's always fun. ;o)

I'm with Tessa - off-white textured fabrics were my first thought. My sister painted her room orange when she was in high school. It was quite nice, really. This runs in the family, since her son then wanted his room BRIGHT green.

You always have the best pics of cats looking innocently inside from outside. Tell Zoey when she has opposable thumbs, she is more than welcome to help with the home improvement projects. Till then she should do like Zube Boy said, lick her butt or something.

Your creative post really made my day. It's been rough over here.

How did you get the names in blue on that photo?

PaintingChef- The orange rocks. I'm digging it! :-) Home Depot is a good suggestion. Thanks!

Lysie- I'm trying to talk Zube Boy into a reddish color for our future bedroom, but I'm losing that battle.

Tessa- Hmm..I'm liking the ideas.

TXSM- I know the bear and moose decorations. They are a Colorado decorative staple.

Chickie- That sounds EXCITING! But, I think Zube Boy would kill me. I'm lucky I talked him into orange. :-)

Amy- I was thinking reds and yellows, but I was kind of afraid they might pull out the brightness a little more? See, I just need to act like the room is a scrapbook page, and everything would be fine!

Junebee- Hee. I think the Z-animals like to go outside and look through the windows at us because it makes them feel like they're at the zoo.

I recently did a wall in my kitchen orange, and it is great. The other walls are a light brown, and I have burgandy and off white accents. Looks beatuiful. The choice is a great color!

Definitely brown!

Oooh, accents can make or break a room. My friend painted her downstairs bright orange and used yellow accents; she makes this horrible face when I refer to it as the Bert-And-Ernie room. I once did orange with a chartreuse accent and every time I went in the room, I wanted a tropical drink or sherbert. Not good. I'd agree with Bonanza and say yes to the plum, but I also like the brown and maroon. Something dark and moody. Watch out, though. You don't want people to think your room is in honor of a football team. Ask a football fan before you pair with orange.

Kari- That sounds awesome!

Bonanza- So, you're a genius. The reason being that the adjacent bathroom to this room is purple. AND the accent colors in my living room are brown. So the rooms will flow into one another. I'm impressed with your cat mind reading skilz.

Kjersten- Thanks!

Librarian- Excellent suggestion with the sports teams. That is really good to know, and since I'm mostly sports stupid, it's not something I'd have thought of.

TJ- THAT was the book someone told me about!
