Seeing Red

When Zube Boy and I first met, I was a redhead. Not a real one. A fake one. I started dying my hair after yucky stuff happened and I think I was trying to, unsuccessfully I might add, be a different person from the one who experienced the yucky stuff.

Anyway, I was looking through some old photos that I had online today, and I kind of miss my redhead self. Don't get me wrong, having reverted back to my natural dirty blonde is SO MUCH FUCKING EASIER than buying a box of Chocolate Cherry and dying my hair red every two months just so that my bowling name of 'ChoChe' could be more than a random moniker, but still. And, no, the semblance of 'ChoChe' to 'Chocha' does not escape me. I'm damn smart like that.

Red suited me, I think. AND I heard a hell of a lot less blonde jokes. My Mom HATED the red hair because my brother and sisters and I are sort of a biological anomaly in that what should have only happened 25% of the time, happened, well, 100% of four times.

Mom and Dad have brown hair. Mom has blue eyes and Dad has brown. All four of us kids have blonde hair and blue eyes. And our faces all bear an astounding resemblance to one another. I was at a bar one night and the bartender, after staring at me for a while, finally said at the end of the evening, "You have GOT to be Hoot Zube's sister! I don't even know if she HAS a sister other than the one I've met, but you have to be related." I informed him that I was, indeed, Hoot's sister, and then convinced my bruised ego that he still probably thought I was cute, and not just staring at me to ascertain my relationship to Hoot.

I think Mom kind of dug that about us. She loved the fact that we all looked VERY MUCH the part of brother and sisters. Hence her disdain of my oh-so-not-natural red hair. Eventually, while visiting home, Mom paid for me to have my hair stripped and dyed back to its natural color for my birthday. And Zube Boy happened to not be with me during this visit. And I didn't tell him my plans. And he picked me up from the airport. And didn't recognize me.

Honestly, by his lukewarm reception, I don't think he was too pleased with it. It didn't matter that blond was my natural color. What mattered was that it wasn't natural TO HIM. And I kind of get that. Doesn't mean that I'm willing to go back to dying my hair red every two months, but I get it.

Sometimes, though, I wonder if he's all bitter about the fact that he fell in love with an Irish redhead and ended up marrying a blonde German...

Supposedly, he loves me no matter the hair color. I'd like to believe that...

And he seems pretty happy to me. Wouldn't you agree?

I have to put my vote in for the blonde :)

You look great as a red head, but I vote for blonde, too!

(Blondes always vote blonde. lol)

Zube - I'm liking the red. It adds balance to your fair features. It gives you more presence.

Perhaps you should be a strawberry blonde.

You did look good as a red head. Not a lot of people can pull it off and have it look natural. You can. But then again, blond suits you too. Of course, don't ask me for hair color suggestions, I change my hair color every time I get it cut!

A blonde decided she was tired of all the blonde jokes, so she dyed her hair red, packed up her belongings, and headed to another state. On her road trip, she encountered a large herd of sheep. So she stopped and talked with the rancher for a short while about how much she liked the sheep and if she could purchase one. The rancher was not willing to sell any of his sheep, but just for laughs said "Tell you what. If you can guess the exact number of sheep here in this field, I'll give you one for free." The woman took one look and immediately said "218". The rancher was in shock, for that was the exact number of sheep he had. "Fine, pick which sheep you want," he said. After looking for a while, the woman pointed to her favorite. The man smiled, then said "Let's make another bet. If I can guess your natural hair color, can I have my dog back?"

Moral of the story: Even though you had red hair, I have no doubt that Zube Boy knew pretty quickly that it wasn't natural. ;)

P.S. I like the red hair on you. But like others said, the blonde does look a bit better.

P.P.S. The bartender totally must have thought you were cute, because if you weren't cute he wouldn't have seen the similarity between you & Hoot, right? :)

You're kind of a hot little number either way...aren't you? So Zube Boy is just a lucky shit all the way around. And I have total confidence that you remind him of that daily if not hourly my dear!!

PLEASE... mine barely notices when the hair color changes! He's kind of used to it now- red, blond, brunette- he's had it all. :)

And I do like the red, but it's BITCH to keep up. I know. I've tried.

You say: "Supposedly, he loves me no matter the hair color. I'd like to believe that..."

Well, I dare you to shave your head. See how much he loves you after that. Actually, never mind. Seeing his picture (no hair), he could like that...

i like the red- but keeping it good is a pain in the arse... and i like the blonde too... sorry- no help from me doll!

Well, I think for all of Zubeboy's other good qualities, he can be forgiven for the presto chango hair color reaction (or lack of reaction, as it may be).

Come to think of it, he looks kind of pissed in that last picture...
Think it's the hair? :)

I like your red hair. Looks really good on you. I have to dye my hair cause I am so friggin gray already. I am 31 and gray as a granny!!! This past weekend I had my hair tinted at a salon instead of doing it out of a box at home - it is so much nicer!!!

The red is hot! Just last month I went back to my natural color of light brown after being a blonde since I met hubby. And to my suprise he likes my natural color better. Whatever makes you happy, right?

Is there some kind of connection between your hair going blond and Zube Boy getting facial hair?

Damn, that's got to be the best, "knock 'em dead" stare I've ever seen, Zube boys got going!! Well, I know I've been a bad blogger, but that is changed, promise. Miss you and hope to see you on my site soon!!!!

Not many people can look that natural with red hair, you're lucky! I think the blonde is my favourite though.

See, when Mike and I first met I had long hair... we chatted politely while my friend picked up whatever he had driven her over to pick up from my house. Nothing came of it.

Then, I chopped my hair off to a sassy little style and ran into him and my friend and her husband at the mall... after that he started stalking me. ;o)

Now, I'm growing my hair out and he's having a cow. blahhh, men!

That last picture is a crack up.

I got the thing where I look exactly like my mom, EXCEPT, I got dad's freckles...which is a total bummer. My mom had the classic Irish redhead, green eyed, peaches and cream complexion. My dad got the other classic irish dark hair grey eyed freckled complexion.

at least I didn't get his hair...not the color, the texture.

I think you looked really good as a redhead. It's the pale skin. I think anyone with pale skin call pull off being a nice redhead.

I think my husband is happier than your tho.
